5 Introducing the Rushmore
Ramblers: A copy of Merchants Lunch recently turned up on ebay, a fairly
common occurance. But this one is the UK edition and used a different cover
from the familiar US one. We've scattered a few views around
the site.-- Photo Album and Merchants

28 A brand
new front page! And when you get a new front page you have to
update the accessories, too. Enjoy the tweaks all over the site with
emphasis on the antics of Bill, Mike, and Jim, but we still have the glorious
history of the Red Clay Ramblers, too.

21 General upkeep.
Did you know that "mp3" has gone out of fashion? There are lots of
varieties of "downloads" now, and we've had to try to track down all the
mp3 mentions on the hundreds of pages on this site to sound more modern.
There was even one place where we still metioned "cassette"! And
we've streamlined our links to music sales sources
to focus more on buying directly from the artist when possible. We
also recommend Rambler Chris Frank's eFolkMusic.

30 Back in 1972, Bill
Hicks and Tommy Thompson returned to the Morris
Family Old Time Music Festival in Ivydale, WVA. They played in memory
of Bobbie Thompson, killed in a car crash the winter before, and soon the
two of them started the Red Clay Ramblers with Jim Watson. We've
had some screen captures from the film Bob Gates made of the fest up for
awhile, but we've now added ordering info for your own copy of the Collector's
Edition of this film that captures a delightful 70s weekend. Let
it take you back.
8 I
don't know how we're going to stand it if the Original Red Clay Ramblers
continue to outdo themselves at every show. They closed out the show
Friday night at the 30th Annual Carter Family Festival with a big dance
party. See the pics!

29 Our Fuzzy
Mountain String Band section has been totally redone and contains lots
of new material. The big addition is a pic page
from 1995's MerleFest appearance. There are new cover scans with
info from the LPs, a pic of the Fuzzies on the cover of the Old Time
Herald, as well as clearer organization of all the Fuzzy collection.
14 The CD release
of Meeting in the Air is happening in August.
We've changed all our cover pics to the new edition. Follow the links
to Mike's site to purchase your copy and retire that worn LP!
12 We now have
a picture of the cover of Hollow Rock Legacy.
The
Hollow Rock String Band section has been updated
with clearer links and a listing of our collection.

6 1986 and the
Ramblers had released It Ain't Right and finished Sam Shepard's
play A Lie of the Mind with its accompanying recording of the same
name. The Durham Morning Herald
reviews an RCR concert featuring cuts from the new releases, "Old Time

6 In September
1977, the Red Clay Ramblers played at the Ark
in
Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the first time. The Ark is one of the nation's
oldest folk clubs. Two encores later, they were invited back again and
again.
5 New additions
to our Tour Calendars collection--the latest
are from 1983 and 1985. Down Home, Winfield, Birchmere, Jordan, Sam
Shepard's Lie of the Mind - follow the Blurs on tour. And we thought
about stealing this find, but instead just linked
to some Cat's Cradle calendars from the early 1980s that show our Blurs
on their home stage regularly.
